2026 Great Plains Storm & Weather Photography Workshop

This is a non-binding courtesy summary.
The Binding Legal Terms & Conditions govern in all cases.

If there is any difference between this summary and the Legal Terms & Conditions, the Legal Terms & Conditions control. Always.

What This Is

This is a small, instructor-led, mobile storm and severe weather photography workshop operating out of Denver, Colorado.

You will travel daily, often long distances, following developing weather across the Great Plains in search of photogenic storms. This is not a sightseeing tour. It is weather-driven, unpredictable, and physically demanding.

Group size is intentionally limited to six photographers with two instructors.

Who This Is For

This workshop is for photographers who:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Can handle long days, early departures, late nights, and flexible plans
  • Can safely enter and exit a passenger van without assistance
  • Can walk on uneven ground and manage their own equipment
  • Understand that storms do not follow schedules or guarantees

If you are unsure whether you can safely participate, you must contact Focused Adventures before booking.

Dates & Structure

  • Week 1: May 16–22, 2026
  • Week 2: May 24–30, 2026
  • Two-Week Option: May 16–30, 2026

All workshops begin and end in Denver, Colorado.

Arriving at least one day early is strongly recommended to ensure you are ready for a prompt morning departure.

  • Daily mobile storm-chasing instruction and field guidance
  • Transportation during workshop days in a modified passenger van
  • Hotel nights during active workshop dates (with noted exceptions)
  • Soft drinks, water, and light snacks in the van
  • Post-processing and critique sessions when weather and timing allow

Single rooms are provided when possible, but room sharing may be required due to storm-chaser demand and hotel availability.

  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), except van snacks and drinks
  • Hotel nights before workshop start dates
  • Alcohol, gratuities, or personal expenses
  • Travel or cancellation insurance

Final payment is due 60 days before your workshop start date.

If you book within 60 days of the workshop start date, payment in full is required immediately.

Cancellations (In Plain Terms)

  • Deposits are always non-refundable
  • Cancelling earlier may allow partial refunds beyond the deposit
  • Cancelling closer to departure means losing more or all of your payment
  • Once the workshop begins, no refunds are available for any reason

This is why travel insurance is required.

Travel Insurance (Required)

You must carry travel/cancellation insurance to participate.

“Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) coverage is strongly recommended and is the only real protection against financial loss if plans change.

Proof of insurance is required before departure.

Safety Comes First

Storm photography involves real risk.

Focused Adventures makes all safety and operational decisions, including when to move, stop, change plans, or end activities. You must follow instructor directions immediately.

If you refuse to comply or repeatedly ignore instructions, you may be removed from the workshop at your own expense, with no refund.

No Guarantees (Important)

Focused Adventures does not guarantee:

  • Storms, tornadoes, lightning, or specific weather events
  • Portfolio results or skill improvement
  • Specific hotels, routes, or daily plans

This is a weather-dependent experience. The reward is opportunity, not certainty.

Photos & Media

Photos and video may be taken during the workshop and used for promotional or educational purposes.

If you prefer not to be individually photographed, you must notify Focused Adventures in writing before departure. Avoidance of all group or candid images cannot be guaranteed.
